The favourite slogan of car yards became reality for us this week when someone gave us a car! Yes, that’s right. They gave us a nice, workable car. It was as easy as driving to their house, receiving the keys and driving away.

The timing could not have been better. David’s father Woodoo arrived on a bus very late on Tuesday night — specifically to purchase a car!

David’s mother Roselin was recently appointed the part-time minister at Austinmer Uniting Church, on the coast of NSW, south of Sydney. When she moved south, Woodoo was left driving around Grafton in his FJ Holden, which has been increasingly difficult to manoeuvre because of Woodoo’s deteriorating physical condition.

Woodoo came up for a couple days this week specifically to purchase a new car and attend a medical appointment.

When Woodoo decided he needed to invest in a new car, he decided that an automatic transmission would be the way to go, as his legs are not entirely reliable these days. So that was about the only criterion… and it matched the car we were given!

What a blessing this gift has been for us! We have been able to see God’s direct provision for Woodoo through someone who didn’t even know him, at exactly the same time as Woodoo needed it.

After giving it new tyres and an oil change, Woodoo and David relaxed to enjoy the gift.

Woodoo has headed home now, but not before David was able to share some recent insights into the goodness of God. We also pray that this gift will remind Woodoo that God is a loving Father, full of compassion and mercy, and He plans good things for our lives.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” — Jeremiah 29:11
