The end of a nostalgic taste
11 April 08

I have been keeping my Maggi as a table centrepiece on top of the peanut butter along with the salt, pepper and chilli flakes. (As if.)
Dad sent me some genuine, made-in-Côte-d’Ivoire Maggi Arome in a parcel soon after Aïcha was born, and I’ve managed to ration its use so it has lasted three years.
But, ah, good things must come to an end, and tonight I used the last drops on some meat. The flavouring has been a favourite of mine for seasoning couscous, and it’s been so precious to me that I haven’t shared it with David or the girls.
A similar product is sold here in Australia, but it just doesn’t taste the same. Anyone else know what I’m talking about?

Oh yes, I remember that indeed…I can get the Maggi cubes here in the States, but have not found Maggi Arome. Whenever we make rice and sauce, we pull out the cubes…

I know what you mean. That is my thought on quite a few things including plantains. I haven’t been able to find a good bunch here in the States….kind of sad, but like you, I guess I just have to keep hope alive and pray that someday I’ll have an opportunity to taste good ol’ Ivorian aloco.
