David and I had a heart-to-heart conversation last night about the future of our last daughter. We were both open to the decision we needed to make, however, as I had invested some personal capital into our previous decision, it took me a while to get used to the idea of change.

We have decided to spell her name with only one L. So she’s Calista now. (We like to keep everyone on their toes — quick, cancel those embroidered towels!)

This topic starts us talking about Aïcha’s name, which is very common in Arabic/French parts of the world, but doesn’t really suit an anglo-dominated culture.

When we named her, I was unaware of the anglicised version — Aisha. I still wonder if we should modify the spelling of her name… (David says he always thought the spelling was more like Ischa.)

What do you think? Should we change Aïcha’s name to Aisha?
