My participation at the Brisbane Writers Festival was only possible because of my wonderful father. Victor caught the train up from Sydney (about fourteen hours) on Tuesday to look after my four girls for five days.

Calista gets some food with the help of Victor Bissett, September 2012
With Pa's help, Calista uses a fork to spear a piece of frozen pineapple.

My daughters really loved having Pa around again. They thrive on his attention and the way he gives them freedom to serve themselves. The girls have no problem in asking for assistance when they need it, but having Pa on hand meant that their independence was acknowledged and respected by another adult.

Pa leaves tomorrow, but we’re already looking forward to travelling down to Sydney in the next couple of months, and this will give the girls the opportunity to build on the relationship that they have with their very special grandfather. I love you, Dad!
