When trying to find a new activity for your children, often the simple ideas are the best fun, and the opportunity to act like an adult is usually also a winner! We took our fun outside today with this activity.

Calista, 2yo, September 2010
We all know how children find it glorious fun to mimic the ways of adults.

The materials are very easy to collect: baby clothes, string, a swing-set or something else child-height, and pegs. No fancy gear needed.

It was easy to string a line between the two frames of the swing-set, and then the girls got started with the pegs.

Brioni was concentrating so hard on squeezing the peg that her tongue slipped out of her mouth.

These girls were soon quite proficient with their pegging — I should get them a step-stool so they can help me with the real washing!

When I set this activity up, my only proviso was that Aisha and Brioni needed to bring their “washing” in later, along with the pegs. Sure enough, later they did that, and I was rewarded with a basket of well-aired baby clothes. Thanks, girls!
