David and Goliath

This is what Bible-reading looks like for our family. It’s a relaxed affair where our girls naturally ask questions as they think about what is read.

Here are two short videos of David reading the story of David and Goliath to Aisha — they’re down in the shed and it’s early in the morning.

My 2 yr old has really started to get into reading together with me now and I’m loving it. He points out letters and we discuss the book; it’s a great time for learning. I probably won’t be letting him read anything violent for a while yet, but we’ve had some basic discussions (if you can call them that) about some pretty heady topics (for a 2 year old). We discussed “sorry” from the Katz “Excuse Me!” book recently. I can’t wait until he’s older like your girl.

Thank you David for reading to me and my kiddies too!! That was great of you to share Lauren! I like how David used ‘grown up words’ like ‘smote’ instead of saying something like ‘David just killed Goliath’. I think too often parents try to simplify the Bible (message Bible for example) rather than reading the words then helping their child understand it. Do I sound too hardcore? Cos I’m not. :) Whilst on the topic of books. Do your girls have the books ‘Gregory, the terrible eater’ and ‘Millions of cats’?
